Teacher Resources
One of the biggest hurdles that US teachers face when teaching Canada is a lack of effective educational resources. To help teachers become more aware of the resources available to them, K-12 STUDY CANADA has compiled a wealth of information and materials to assist teachers develop a curriculum that brings the sights and sounds of Canada to life for American students.

K-12 STUDY CANADA Teacher Loan-Kits
Teachers can use two loan-kits available through WWU's Center for Canadian-American Studies called the K-12 STUDY CANADA Resource Valise and the K-12 STUDY CANADA Student Novel Collection.
The Resource Valise
Includes dozens of books, artifacts, CD-ROMs, music CDs and videos that relate to nine thematic units concerning Canada.
The Student Novel Collection
Contains thirty-six novels that can be used in conjunction with the resource valise or as an independent exploration of Canada through youth fiction.
Canada: Northern Neighbor (2nd Edition)
This is a fantastic book! What depth and variety - the result of many hours of dedicated collaboration!

Published by the Center for Canadian-American Studies at Western Washington University, Canada: Northern Neighbor (2nd Edition) is an excellent core textbook suitable for grades 6 to 9 that focuses on the history, geography, economy, government, culture and arts of Canada while emphasizing Canada's relationship with the United States.
NIE Supplement on Canada
O Canada! The True North Strong and Free!, written by Tina Storer and funded by the Canadian Embassy, was initially published in April 2004 by The Washington Times as a Newspapers in Education supplement on Canada for teachers.

K-12 Teaching Modules
Connecting Canadian History to the US. Numerous educational modules have been designed that link Canada to the history of the US. The modules can be downloaded and copied for classroom use.
K-12 Lesson Plans - STUDY CANADA Summer Institute
Lesson Plans that educators created at the annual STUDY CANADA Summer Institute are available for use by other teachers as well as K-12 educational modules created by Nadine Fabbi, University of Washington, are available for use. The lesson plans and modules concern a variety of topics commonly taught by teachers of Canada.
